NNP Expresses Serious Concerns Over Sudden Change in Supervisor of Elections

For Immediate Release
June 20, 2024

St. George's, Grenada — The New National Party (NNP) has recently met with the Governor-General to express our serious concerns regarding the abrupt change in the Supervisor of Elections. The NNP was taken aback by this sudden decision, which appears to have been executed without any prior consultation, particularly during a critical period of national dialogue on proposed changes related to the registration process. To date, no justifiable reason has been provided for the dismissal.

Although the constitution does not require the Governor-General to consult on this appointment, we believe it is courteous and transparent to do so given the current circumstances. Such a significant change, made without transparent processes and stakeholder engagement, undermines the integrity and trust in our electoral system.

The NNP remains committed to upholding democratic principles and ensuring that all electoral processes are conducted with the highest standards of fairness and transparency. The NNP will continue to advocate for the preservation of our democratic values and the protection of the electoral process. We are closely monitoring what appears to be an attempt by the current administration to ignore the electoral laws and our constitution.
