PRESS STATEMENT

Act Now: Clean Drains, Reduce Flooding, Protect Grenada!

For Immediate Release
November 18, 2024
St. George's, Grenada — The New National Party (NNP) calls on the government to take immediate action to address the persistent flooding affecting communities across the island.

We urge the administration to mobilize a massive island-wide brigade to clean the clogged drains and rivers that cause these recurring disasters. As the rains continue, the risks to homes, livelihoods, and public safety will only worsen if decisive action is not taken.

During our tenure, we established the Environmental Wardens Program specifically for this purpose, ensuring our waterways remained clear and communities protected. This proactive approach saved countless lives and properties in the past.

Under our leadership, over 6,000 people were employed during the Christmas, Easter, and Carnival periods as part of the Debushing Program, ensuring significant progress in keeping the island clean. This allowed the Environmental Wardens to focus on critical work to reduce flooding risks.

Not only did this initiative clean up the country, but it also injected much-needed money into the hands of our people, creating a powerful economic boost during those periods.

The people of Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique deserve immediate and effective solutions.
